This Top Gear episode is just fantastic - old vs new:
http://www.car2max.com/video/Top%20G...ld%20Model.wmv It is about 5 mins long. I really digged the GTI battle. |

I've seen the US Top Gear; sanitised crap. All the nasty American remarks taken out, and its been chopped around to be completely out of context.
That last bit somehow reminded me of this 300 ZX launch ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeAOp...nissan%20300zx |

Of note to the other Americans watching this:
Peugeot, as we all know, used to sell their cars here, and in the early '80s, they were pretty successful with cars like the 505. Then things started to go downhill as their cars got more expensive and they tried to position themselves against BMW with cars that were, essentially, the equivalent of VW. The last straw was the 405, which was a great car (a lot like an early Infiniti G20) but again, it was expensive and weird and French. Peugeot originally had plans to import that 205 GTi seen in this video, but the dealer network roundly rejected it... they didn't want some cheap car in their showrooms. The 205 GTi then went on to become a legendary and absurdly popular car in Europe, the 405 was forgotten, and Peugeot dropped out of the US with its tail between its legs. We missed this car by inches. A veritable classic everywhere else in the world.
