I'd be VERY happy if Button or Rubens wins the championship this year.

Yeah I'm happy to see button do well. He is pretty much a veteran after all, and with the season he had last year it much feel great for him.

Kubica was .4 to .8 seconds a lap faster at that point and was sucking him up even more.

It was a mistake on both of their parts, Kubica should have given vettel more room, vettel should have let kubica by, he knew damn well he was significantly slower.

that mercedes is better lol

kubica was pulling in vettle and made a foolish move, he had the time to wait to pass him. Sucks to see such a good race from him end like that

He was going to try and catch button, so waiting for vettel would cost him time, either way it sucks for both him and vetel, vettel is getting a 10 spot grid pentalty and a $50,000 fine. Also Hamilton got bumped into third place and trulli into 12th for his caution fiasco.

Why is vettel getting penalized? He was on the inside of the turn and kubica left him nowhere to go.

I just hate seeing what could have been a nice clean pass which i would have respected cuz I like kubica too, turn into what it did.

Vettel got the 10 grid penalty because Kubica had the pass and vettel didn't give it up. If you noticed when they crashed, vettel tried to turn in more, understeered and went into kubica.

The $50,000 is because he was trying to drive his car around the track with the broken front wheel/suspension

Ok I was thinking it was cuz of him making a few laps with 3 wheels. That was kinda stupid of him.

I still dissagree with vettle being at fault though, he was on the curbing the whole way so how could he have understeered. Kubica just cut the coner as if vettle was never there.

Watch this, you can see vettle is only on the kerbs for a second, you can see hm understeer a bit at 1;45 too.

They both fucked up, Kubica was impatient, vettel did not want to let him go.

With like 6 laps to go I hoped that Kubica and Vettel would take each other out and give Brawn a one-two finish... I never thought it would actually happen!

As much as I liked seeing the Brawn cars do good, I would have been happy for Red Bull to get a podium, and finally finish well... and I like Kubica as well.... but oh well, thats racing. This was an awesome weekend; '09 is going to be a great year.

Who would've thunk it? Brawn GP doesn't even exist a month ago and yesterday they not only took pole and P2, but they finished 1 - 2 as well?

I'm sure some of the other teams will be renewing their complaints and appeals this week.

Aside from that, it's a real shame that Vettel let his ego get in the way and took out Kubica like that. They had 5 more laps, he didn't need to get by him right there.

This isn't exactly the top 10 I expected:

1 Jenson Button Brawn-Mercedes
2 Rubens Barrichello Brawn-Mercedes
3 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes
4 Timo Glock Toyota
5 Fernando Alonso Renault
6 Nico Rosberg Williams-Toyota
7 Sebastien Buemi STR-Ferrari
8 Sebastien Bourdais STR-Ferrari
9 Adrian Sutil Force India-Mercedes
10 Nick Heidfeld BMW Sauber

*Jarno Trulli was originally classified third but had 25s added to his race time for passing under the safety car.*

That was a hell of a race and an interesting way to start off the F1 season. It doesn't seem the new KARS system played a big part in the race... I was a bit shocked to hear about the high voltage warning lights and sticker to warn the corner works that the vehicle may be electrified though!

Yup, here's what happens if they don't discharge it first:

I think "he" would be Kubica in this case. Vettel definitely shares some blame for the accident, but Kubica was clearly making up enough ground that he could have passed him within another lap, I bet. He really needn't have pushed the issue.

I doubt he would have even done that. Kubica was on slicks where as vettle was on hard compounds and kubica was on a fresh set of slicks, and apparently the new slicks start to go pretty quick. I am willing to bet that vettle could have held off kubica after another lap or so, as the only reason kubica was "catching" vettle was because he was on fresh slicks.

No, you're confused.

Kubica was on the hard compound, vettel was on the soft. Kubica had been out longer, but the softs go away after like 5 to 6 laps, vettles tires had already shit the bed and thats why Kubica was so much faster.

Yup. Pretty dumb on Hamilton's part.

*shakes head*

Moral of the story...no one likes to be lied to. That said, this whole business of changing results after every race is really starting to grate on me...

After reading the transcript, I really think the FIA is completely full of it. Seems like there was no subterfuge...that said, if they reverse the decision again, I'm done watching for this season.
