OK, just because you own a welder doesn't mean you should ever plug it in and try to use it. Is this for real??????????????? #-o : :!:

I've seen scarier welds. I once bought an air-cooled VW Beetle project, without much inspection prior to purchase. (It was shit slammed and parked in deep grass... I couldn't see underneath it.

The guy that I bought it from had unbolted the front beam (which is your entire front end, suspension, hubs, brakes, wheels, etc...) and moved it up on the body about 2" (effectively lowering the car, the wrong way) and welded it back in place with a large piece of 1/2" thick angle iron. This might have been okay if he knew what he was doing, but the welds looked like rabbit feces scattered around, not to mention, his angle iron was too thick to weld with whatever POS stick welder he was using. I was surprised it didn't fall apart on the trailer ride home.

Also, the steering column wouldn't line up, so he added a swivel (using a 3/8ths drive rachet swivel) and welded to some 1/2" rod. (same rabbit-turd welds here) I shit you not...

Wow, that cage is a fucking mess. It's like those experiments where they gave LSD to spiders and watched them spin insane webs or something.

Speaking of genuinely shitty craftmanship, have a look at the Racing Concepts LS1 subframes that came on the LS1 Miata that burned up 10 minutes after I bought it: http://zenspeed.com/phoenix5.html - After I pulled the car apart and got a good look at the subframes I was actually sort of relieved that it burned before one of these shitty welds broke at speed.

Owning a welder doesn't make you a welder....
