Default Costco Gas, Good or Bad?

Anyone fill up with costco gas on a daily basis? Always been a Shell guy. But w/ prices up I'm thinking if Costco gas is any good. I've read a few things stating that It doesnt have detergents, that's why it's cheaper. any opinions would be great.

The Costco by my old house in Miami would always have a BP truck delivering fuel, so I would assume that they don't use shitty gas.

I get gas every week from a Peerless Tire on my commute that happens to have gas pumps. No idea what brand it is. But the Link ECU in Sharka tells me that it's good gas (no sudden fuel table changes), so I happily tank up with it in all of my cars. I'd be willing to bet that Costco gas is the same way.

The important thing is customers. If there are a lot and the station is getting fresh gas often, then you're probably quite safe. If it's an out of the way station with high prices and not many customers, they're more likely to have sediment in their tanks and old filters on their pumps. I stay away from those and will choose the busy no-name station next to it every time.

All the gas here in Albuquerque comes from the same couple of refining companies anyway. The same trucks that fill up Chevron fill up Costco. That's not to say it's a tiny town with 2 gas stations. It just seems like more and more these days, it's all the same gas.

Just saying. I've always gotten the best from BP. (Sunoco, Chevron and Shell) lol I guess it's a different case out west.

I'm a Chevron person myself. I can't help but feel bad when I fill up my car at a no name station.

I know it's probably all the same, but it makes me feel better, lol.

Costco was involved in a law suit over heating up their gas. Maybe they arent doing it anymore

Sheetz food and munchies = awesome.

Sheetz gas = worse mileage and misfiring. Not in my car, I never fill up there, happened to both my mom and my dad.

As far as i know, all gas in california has to meet the same regulations. Whether its from Arco, Shell, Mobile or 76 it should all "last" just as long. the additives that are added clean the engine to an extent, but its still good to switch up the brand because the additives start to lose their effectiveness after a few fill ups.

Ultimately REV has it spot on, it all depends on how fresh the gas is, try to go to the busier spots.

I used to get gas at Sam's club because they were the last place in town with ethanol-free gas.

Now, as far as I can tell, there isn't any ethanol-free gas in Virginia (/all of the east coast these days?)

So I just buy whatever's cheapest. 7-11 or whatever. Meh.

$6-6.50 a gallon in Spain. You drive shorter distances. But still expensive, many cars options that will do +40mph petrol and TDi's etc... you always need at city car good on gas that you don't care about since its going to get destroyed parking. Literally.

Costco is debit only. No credit.

interesting, any chance you can find out what the Ethanol rating is? In Washington State we got a cap of %10 max ethanol. Which if you don't drive much, over time your octane rating with the 'corn' additive drops drastically. Same method as buying a 2ltr (Litre of cola.. its for a cop ) soda, and the soda gets flat from the carbonation evaporating. Which will increase the chance of mis-fires/retarding on the timing.

Toyota/Lexus also had a recall this last year on their fuel rail line for Ethanol causing leaking/failure on the rubber line to the fuel rail.

Gas wise for Costco or pretty much any other Gas Station - They all get their gas/oil from the same processing refinery that handles the crude oil in your region. It's the 'Brands' like Chevron/Shell/Texaco/{INSERT EAST COAST NAME BRAND HERE} that have additional 'cleaning' agents which keep carb build up from occurring, where as if you just got regular gas that didn't have the 'additive'.

Note - i worked at a gas station for a while 10 years ago. Chevron (The one i worked at anyways). Had a special machine that fed the techron into the Gas Stations fuel system during pumping.. and It was to be checked daily.

So in short, unless you have a rotary... Costco/Safeway/Fred Myers (West coast thing?) will adhere to your state fuel ratings, but they will not have the additional cleaning agent. Getting fuel system cleaner like GUM OUT or similar is good to do during oil changes, keep in mind the additives will also reduce your octane rating

If your serious on running boost. I found the best place to get gas is at your local public airport (IE: the small one that u can keep your private plane at). You can bring Fuel Containers (THEY WILL NOT LET YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR UP) and gas up on 104/110leaded octane. I used to do this when i had a Galant VR4 . pretty gnarly stuff... the exhaust winds up having a 'sweet' smell instead of kerosene like...

have a good weekend!
