Try wiggling the steering wheel and removing the key at the same time.

Okay I didnt feel like started a new thread for this, as I seemingly had the same problem. The wheel hasnt locked, it turns freely. Ive tried twisting 900 different ways. No luck. Ive read in a few Spec Miata threads that you have to drill into the ignition cylinder and remove a spring/pin for the wheel lock to disengage. Im okay with doing whatever I have to do to get this damn key out. Most people are saying get a new ignition switch/whole assembly all together. SOME HELP WOULD BE GREAT. NAWMSAYIN

This isn't exactly helpful, but my original key finally started to bend when I used it on the door and trunk locks, that made me nervous so I got a new key. I wonder if your key was bent slightly so that you could put it in the ignition but maybe turning it helped bend it more, and now the key is just physically stuck in the cylinder? If that's the case the whole thing would need to come out of the column, and new parts needed. Sorry I have never experienced the OPs problem or yours. Good luck.

Thanks Chris for the input, but the key seems like its willing to slide out IF.. it could click past the off postion. It needs to come down one more click, but won't. The key slides and wiggles in the slot, but wont rotate.

Stupid question: is the car an automatic and it's not in park?

Ok now that we're past that, lol: have you tried using a hammer and lightly tapping on both the face of the ignition cylinder and then also the end of the key? Might be that a tumbler is stuck. Try that?

ive lightly tapped/WD40'd/yanked/giggled/wiggled/probed/beatthelivingshit out of the cylinder. Drilled the hole that removes the spring and pin for the wheel lock. No luck. Im jus gonna get a new assembly from friend. This f*ckin thing is driving me insane.
