work your way up to where? both cars have different values to different crowds. i personally would pay more for a miata than any jetta but thats me. (of course it'd have to be somewhat modified to justify the price im not stupid haha)
EDIT: nvmd you answered me before i could post. |

LOL I can't even BEGIN to describe what a stupid idea this is.
just light a few hundred bucks a month on fire...and don't drive the miata about 10 weeks out of the year...that's like owning a VW. I'll never own another one of those wallet raping shitboxes again. 2 Jettas was enough for me... |

The Jetta will cater to more people if selling is what you want to do.
I was going to trade my FD for a built Civic (i hate civics) because my friend said he would buy it from me for more than I was selling the FD. Guy couldnt daily the FD tho so it fell threw. I would do it if you just plan on selling it |

from the look of your car, you want something you can just cruise in and look hellastanced, flushbro. if this is the case go for the jetta. the vw scene has WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more hipsters that would give you cred for a dope fwd auto scenewhore ride.

I had an 01 also and I had nothing but problems with it. And as already stated they don't grip for shit. If you're trying to sell it though, it would be easier to sell it. I sold my 01 with 128k miles and a handful of aftermarket parts for $5750 in a week. But I'd keep the miata. |

My first car was 1.8t mk4 gti, my second car was a mk4 vr6 gti. They are such a love hate relationship! That jetta will ruin many of your days. I now own a miata and enjoy every single minute of being on the road.

I had a '99 Audi 1.8T A4. Different car, but same interior, and same electronics. Was a pain in the rear to live with. The computers in the German cars of those years are garbage. Although your Miata looks no better than the VW, I'd still keep it.

Test drove it today and the thing actually pulls and rides nice. He wants time to talk it over with his dad so I'll know by friday.
But my dumbass drifted it into a curb today... I think I bent or broke my lower control arm on the drivers side, when i slightly turn the wheel to the right, the passenger side wheel moves but drivers side doesnt. What could that be? Wanna be able to fix by Friday... |

I love my miata, I've owned, well... 6+ VWs and Audis (none of them hellastanced yo)... VWs have their place, but my favorite car so far is my Miata. Although, the Jetta's actual monetary value could potentially be higher than your miata, but that's all dependent on condition, also if that Jetta is an auto, and it's the 4 speed transmission, it's probably about to blow up. |

as a VW technician i have to say that the MKIV is a good platform. the vr6 is a good engine provided the proper maintenance has been done, oil changed, etc. you cant beat the sound of a VR6. i wouldnt trade if it was an automatic trans. they dont have the best reputation for longevity. if you're serious i would take it to the dealer and have a GFF scan performed with the factory VAS scanner. that's probably gonna be around $100. or if you know someone with a RossTech VCDS, so you can see ALL the faults in ALL the modules, not just the engine so you know what you're getting into. the VR6 can get pricey if something breaks, be prepaired for that. also VR6s dont get the best fuel economy. it's a fact. but in 2001 if you were a Baller and wanted a jetta, you got the VR6. because racecar.
my point: have the car looked at by someone with vw experience and realize what you're getting BEFORE YOU BUY IT. you dont want to find out any dirty secrets after you sign the title. just my 2cents. |
