Something about putting less wear on the tranny. I don't know if that applies to your 850 or not.

I know my s60 t5 is suppose to make 15psi from the literature I have read on the topic and for some reason I don't go past 10 psi. The best answer I could find was that it was a dealer thing and sometimes factory to limit the boost on the automatics.
It is auto. I need to research that, buy a few spare transes, and figure out a way around it.

The way around it is an ecu tune. Turbo psu is all electronically controlled.

True. When I'm done with physical parts I'm probably going ard so that won't be an issue.

The motor mounts for the nissan are missing all of their rubber. Instead of doing something sensical that costs money I'm going to weld them solid. Should be fun.

I'm joking, of course. I need to take a harder look because two of the mounts look like they've been recently replaced, as have the CV shafts, so I dunno what's making the on/off throttle transition so jerky.

Good news: made my planned 75 mile drive without the E34 overheating
Bad news: Aux fan is shot. Not sure if yet if it's one of the relays or the motor itself

After doing motor mounts and torque mounts on the volvo, a light suspension tune up, and a quick refresh of engine rubbers, and tires this car is fantastic. Now I can see why peple get addicted to these cars.

I still don't "get" Volvos. The only "plus" in my mind is that it's a ubiquitous cheap RWD platform that isn't a damn Panther.

Cheap, super comfy, can be made to handle moderately well. They have 5 cylinders and are a bit quirky. They have an extensive aftermarket.

I've just heard of them having all sorts of odd reliability problems, and some of the fanboys are utterly impossible. Personally if I was looking for cheap comfy transportation that could handle well I'd look at 90s Accords and Civics, though those are FWD. Or maybe a Buick Roadmaster estate wagon on coilovers? That would be... interesting.

Dirt cheap. I sit on a couch during my 126 mile round trip commute in a car that can get out of its own way and sit at an 80mph cruise control and it has never (knock on wood) left me stranded. The stock speakers are better than my stock 2014 subaru speakers. I don't give a shit hoe many times someone taps me while parallel parking. And if something significant breaks, I can find it on Craigslist for 5 bucks.

So, basically the same thing as my obsession with Buick Rivieras and LeSabres, except the Volvo can more easily be made to handle.

Comfy, great fuel economy, can fix with a hammer, great stock sound systems, reasonably quick for their size, etc.

While thst might be true about those other brands, having a legacy motor with a huge following makes the community much more helpful.

Plus at this point I'm extremely comfortable with the car, and don't really feel like learning the quirks of another.

None of what you described fits my grandpa's buick lesabre or any of the cars he's ever owned or any of my dad's American cars from the past or the Pontiac grand am I had.

I paid $4500 for an at the time 6 year old car that was safe, comfy, and made 260 hp and had an msrp of $40,000. I couldn't even find a 6 year old civic, Camry, accord, or fit that was below $6,000 for a 6 year old car.
Now that same car has been through all sorts of things and has 190,000 miles. It is still my daily and super comfy.

Edit: Also, older red block volvos are indestructible.

Edit2: Also, this is how indestructible Njjon's car is albeit not a redblock.

I'm not trying to convince you to switch, just trying to understand the Volvo obsession. I guess it's like my Buick obsession.

You had a Grand Am? I'm sorry. I had a 2000 LeSabre Limited that was optioned up fairly nicely. Rode fabulously, super comfy seats, light steering, wallowey as hell until I put a better rear sway bar (from a Cadillac SeVille STS) on it and replaced the blown shocks, wasn't dangerously slow, and dead-nuts reliable. The Concert Sound II 6-speaker system still impresses the shit out of me. Beats the hell out of 90% of modern systems somehow.

Also. 3800 Series II. 'nuff said.

I love that video. Such an awesome way for a car to go out.

I paid $650 for my 200k mile Riviera and drove it 2000 miles to Ohio and back during which I got 30mpg. The LeSabre has 230k miles on it and somehow still runs (though it's been beat to hell).

I need to put a supercharger on my Riv. The noise is too much fun.

Someone wanna rename this thread "Boring daily driver fap-fest"?

I kinda get the Volvo thing. One of my friends had an 850 turbo, from a roll it could just about keep up with the WRX I had at the time

I'm so done with my E34. Not putting another cent into this thing. May be better off just parting it out at this point.

My Bimmer life may not be meant to be... teach me what to look for in the Volvo world. I'd like to have 250ish hp+ and a comfy commuter. Sedan or wagon don't matter to me. Auto preferred. Or just find one on the Seattle CL and tell me why it's the one.
