I have had the idea, for a while now, of doing an engine swap in a UCF20 Lexus LS400 by taking out the original 4.0L V8 and dropping in a Mopar 440 cubic inch (7.2L) V8 and badging it as a Lexus LS440.

I do love the Lexus V8 in our cars. Such a good match imo.

I would say in hindsight that replacing the differential seals with the diff out would be easier, and Mazda only wants $11 for them.

It's also quite straightforward to replace the seals with it in the car. Either way, it's not a big deal, but having spares on hand when doing the swap would have been a good idea.

Are we talking pinion seals or axle seals?

I wonder why Mazda chose the intake/exhaust port shape that they did for NA and NB engines? I wonder why they didn't go with a round port? Wouldn't a round port provide better flow and more power, as well as being simpler to manufacture? I also wonder if it's possible to make the existing ports round? Probably not enough metal surrounding the port to achieve a round port maybe?

Axle seals.

I'm not breaking up the diff so never touched the front. It just went in as a unit.

Nice. Axle seals are definitely easier.

So easy. One of those things that seems much harder than it actually is.

I'm getting much better at getting axles in and out of the diff. There's actually very little force involved if you get the clip-ring just so.
