Default Nexus 7 in dash install

Got board the other day and this happened.....

The Nexus 7 (16GB) is running on modded ROM and Kernel(http://mehrvarz.github.io/nexus-7-usbrom/) don't let any of that scare you. No harder then doing a software update. I did mod the kernel a bit for some other stuff I wanted but the one I linked to works just fine as is.

I'm using a 4 port usb hub, connecting the following:

USB digital TV (DVB-T) dongle with the RTL2832U chip. (software http://sdr.martinmarinov.info/) connected to stock ant. Depending on the hardware used, its radio frequency coverage can span between 50 MHz and 2.2 GHz. It currently demodulates WFM, AM, NFM, USB, LSB, DSB, CWU and CLW signals.

128GB SSD(Solid State Hard drive) music and other file storage.

USB DAC (http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCA202.aspx) Not 100% required but better sound quality then using Nexus headphone output. Runs to Amp in trunk(see old projects).

I 12v to 5v(5Amp) DC/DC converter, runs to USB hub powers it all.

I still have to finish making one last trim bit for the bottom.

Yes you have to mod/Dremel some plastic around(inside/hidden) the radio mount, but it's minor and the stock radio will go right back in place with no issues.

Very interesting and nice job, do you have by chance any pics of mounting ? I'm planning to do something similar in my NA with my Galaxy Note 2 (main difference is I want to bring it with me out of the car of course).

No pics of the mounting, but I'll get some tomorrow. Mostly just trimmed the radio surround(back edge where it meets the front of the tablet) and trimmed behind the surround to allow the USB cable room to connect.

Looks nice, how do you turn on/off the screen?

Do you have to disassemble the center console to take out the tablet?

The ROM/Kernel I'm using turns it off/on when it sees the USB power shut off/on with the car. It was not installed to be removed all the time, it can be removed but it's meant to stay in place all the time.

Rain seems to have stopped at last I'll try and get a bunch more photos and do an install write up today or tomorrow.

You could leave the CF tombstone untouched, if you made more space behind the tablet, more work but 100% doable.

Awesome work. Do you have to tether your phone to your nexus to get the navigation to work?

Google Nav works fine, if you download the maps or tether phone for data connection. GPS in Nexus has no issues locking and tracking satellites. If you can't or do not want to tether buy a Nav app.

Nice work! Been thinking about doing the same for my NA interior. Have it connected to the Megasquirt via USB OTG and will have all my gauges displayed.

I'm really interested in seeing how you mounted it.

I've just finished testing out the idea of using Android for my gauges via Megasquirt, seems to work well. But unsure if I should use a tablet and mount it in a way that I could easily remove it or go with an Android head unit like this one:
http://www.tradesolution.hk/e/ptxweb...duct/1227.html

The screen folds away when not needed and only takes a single DIN slot.

Make sure you research reviews on those flip out units well. I used to build custom carputers and used some of these flip out cases and inevitably the flip screen goes in a SHORT period of time. There are some cool mounts that attach to seat bolt and give u an arm along side the center console allowing u to get a good custom angle for the tablet and the fold down when not in use. I'll try to find a link.
