Default low volume

the volume on my stereo (even at the highest setting) is very low, and always has been since i bought my car. it is a 1990 with a stock tape deck. does anyone know why this would be??

Easy, one or more of your speakers are blown. Check your headrests first, then your doors.

Stock stereo sucks. Upgrade to a new HU, external amp and component speakers. I can hear mine just fine top down on the freeway with the volume at 1/3.

thats weird cuz the speakers are new, and the previous owner had a new deck in it and it had great sound. i guess its just time to upgrade

yeah probably the stock reciever sucks.. try ipod tape adapter and bump the ipod it could help make it louder..

oh..another thing could be that your speakers are not connected to the reciever correctly and/or is loose.
last option get a sub and a box. if u want a lot of bass.
or couple 6x9 if u just want loudness and some bass too.

did you connect it to the rca wires? those are for the preamp (to an amplifier) and it's a low output.

Yes, that would be good, before you blow your new speakers. Its quite possible to blow speakers from underdriving them (not putting enough power to them) and Im sure the stock tape deck is probably very weak.
