Default CD player install please help! YELLOW wire goes were?

ok so I got this cd player dvd player. When i put the yellow wire to the Power wire(red wire) it turns on and the dvd screen comes out and works and everything. But it stays on even wit the key out of the ignition and starts smelling like its about to smoke. Does anyone know which wire the yellow one goes to as it only turns on with the yellow one connected. The yellow one according to the CD player label say memory back up 12V.

If you guys need pics ill take one let me know thanks for the help.

dude, you just match the color of the wires...it's foolproof!

Of course it's gunna smoke, obviously yellow and red wire does not go together does it?

It sounds like the yellow goes to the constant, not the one that gets power when you turn on your ignition... Otherwise, when you turn off your car, you will lose whatever presets, time, settings, etc. you have set... I never trust wiring guides or what anyone says when it comes to wiring a stereo... Get a test light and check for yourself... It may save you some money and heartache in the long run...

I'm curious what it smells like when it's "about to smoke"...

As Risingsun said, Yellow is constant 12v (battery) for memory. Red goes to switched 12v to actually turn the unit on.
Sounds like you actually have the yellow wire connected correctly, but have the red wire connected to constant also, that's why it won't turn off, unless you hit the radio's power button. Find switched 12v and connect the red wire to that.

Yep I got a test light and it was super easy. I got the CD/DVD/TV/AUX player from my uncle for free but I think the speaker wires on the DVD/CD Player harness is fried. Every thing turns on,the touch screen works but there is no sound =[ The sound works with my other cd player but not with the new one =[. Do you guys think it could be the DVD/CD player itself or the DVD/CD wire harness?

What makes you think the harness if fried? I would connect a speaker directly to the speaker leads out of the HU and see if it even works... (Just speaker lead directly to the speaker... No factory plugs and stuff like that...) If it does, then your problem is between your HU and the speakers... If it doesn't, its in the HU itself... Try all the speaker leads and make sure your fader isn't set all the way to the back... If you wired it correctly, I would guess the HU is done... Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, you just never know...

I did connect a speaker directly from the back of the CD/DVD player and nothing happened. I tried each speaker wire and nothing happened. The DVD player played the video the radio stations showed up and the touch screen works. Just no sound.... when i turn the volume up the screen says im turning it up but there is nothing coming out. =[ The head unit has the volume knob on it, so wouldnt the volume display not change if the head unit didnt work?

If it has RCA outs, you can try hooking up an external amp to it. You might have just fried the internal amp.

yellow is the "memory" wire, hooked to constant power so that it doesn't forget your radio stations, presets, etc. Red is power.

Or it needs an external amp to work.

True. Some dvd HUs don't have a built in amp.

lol evertime i scroll through ur posts, i think its jay posting lol. some cars are not color matched... especially mazdas and nissans. i remember on my friends 240 red was a speaker wire and gray was the acc 12v.

yellow goes to a constant 12v so even plugging it straight to the battery should be fine.

i agree with trying an external 4 channel amp. if it has speaker leads from the radio it has to have an internal amp. what make/model is the unit in question? it still may not work if theirs internal damage, but you may get lucky!

It's also possible that the internal amplifier is simply shut off. On certain Headunits (alpine for example) you can turn off the internal amplifier if you're running on the pre-outs. It's designed to save power.

Try finding it in the menu. Otherwise that smell you speak of is likely what's left of your internal amp.
