I've been cruising all of the miata sites for days and could find a write up with pictures of how to diagnose and repair headlight retract problems. The threads all say the same generic junk.

1. Check dash switch
2. Check it again
3. Check Fuse
4. Check dash switch
5. Check LA12 in engine compartment
6. Check dash switch
and finally in somewhere in the depths of the search results someone said something about a underdash relay.
Guess what I found it, repaired it and wrote it up.
