Very cool idea, and it looks quite at home!! This is the KL Series V6 Motor from the Mazda Millenia-S ??? I think?

More Details can be found below.
http://majica.net/JNR/here.htm

1st question, why is this guy not on our forum yet? (We must capture him!) Go my children, you must bring him to us, Resistance is futile!

2nd Question, who is gonna be next on this forum to attempt this show stopping Mazda Motor swap!?!

Wow!

...I thought the MX-3's V6 had historically left something to be desired, though?

You've got to be kidding me...I've been talking about doing that exact swap, ITB's and all, for almost a year.

Beat to the punch again

KL is 2.5L or 1.8L

I'd hate to think anyone would waste their time with the 1.8L...

Or do the JE-ZE V6 swap, as Mazda intended. But remember; heavy engines compared to the I4, so you MUST upgrade the brakes. Mazda put on FD RX7 units on theirs.

There's a thread going on in the Engine Conversions forum of Miata.net about this one.

Andy, do you have anymore pictures of that 1006? Maybe of the engine? Or if you can upload them to the Gallery that would be great too!

Hello All,

I was invited to drop by to discuss my KL-Miata (all call it the Kliata). I've been a Mazda guy for quite awhile -- 3 MX3 V6s and this is my 3d Miata. To give you an idea of where my head is when it comes to engines: a few years ago I had a '99 Miata, then bought my second MX3 ('92), drove them both for a couple of months... and sold the Miata. (Granted, the KL-V6 is a special breed.)

My wife, Jill, and I are long-time autocrosseres, who decided we like competing in SCCA's Street Mod2 class. We were driving my 350Z, but it is a half-ton over weight (and also too nice/new to turn into a dedicated competition car), so, this became the opportunity to build the car I've been planning for almost a decade.

It is going to be real challenge, because the class gets more exotic every year, and as good a package as mine is, I am still giving up a lot in the are aof potential power.

Anyway, I'm glad to share some info and ideas -- and maybe help a few of you put the "right" engine in the MX5.

Mark

There were 2 different versions of the 1006 (maybe the same car remodelled); project was cancelled because it was going to retial for silly money, and the M2-1002 was a flop. The other version was more like the (I believe) the intended production car. Sorry, this is the best picture I have to hand:

Maypo, hope your ready for me to pick your brain on this one. here we go

1. exactly what motor is in your miata? what car did it come out of?

2. what tranny are you running?

3. what engine management are you running?

4. how difficult was it to drop that motor into the miata?

5. any modifications to the firewall needed?

6. did you need to modify the front subframe?

6. did you have to move the steering?

7. what oil pan are you using?

8. do you need the cowl hood to get it to fit?

sorry for all the questions, but i've always wanted to do this swap, but never found any good info about trying it and i didn't want to be the first to go for it.

do you have any other pics to show us of the conversion, maybe some pics from underneath so we can see the work of art.

i'd like to get as much info and details from you as possible about this conversion.

thanks
Alex

boy, i'm pretty stupid huh. i went back and found his website and all my questions are answered there.

well, i'd love to do this swap and it looks like he didn't have to do any major cutting and he bolted it right up to the stock motor mounts, so it doesn't look hard at all to do.

now, if i do go ahead with this one, i'm pretty sure mine will be boosted. Can you say, twin turbo,

I had planned on doing this swap before being as Kl's are only 700bux, but then found kl03's are better suited for boosted ect ect, just went with a turbo 1.8 for the mean time.

Car sounds great, but insulate your camera mount with some foam and rubber man. You're chewing up that poor camera.
