Default lower shift boot replacement

I'll be doing a DIY replacement on the upper and lower shift boots. The upper shift boot replacement is pretty straightforward. However, I'm puzzled on how to detach the worn out lower shift boot from the shifter...white portion on this pix

and replace it with this one...

any help will be appreciated

Lube it up and force it down. No, seriously. You just have to use soap, oil, personal lubricant, or what have you, and stretch it down over the lever. The old one you can just cut off to save hassle.

This, take some snips or something to cut off the old boot and slide the new one on with whatever form of lube you happen to use.
