OK so I'm going to being my timing belt very soon & installing an MSM cam in the process and looking for ways to make some further power.
here's the kit I'm thinking of: http://www.srmotorsports.com/srmiataCooling.html I had a quality unorthodox racing set on my old civic and the gains were pretty impressive(freed up a noticeable amount of power & felt like doing a lightweight flywheel again). but that was a honda, and I'm still in the learning stages about miatas here are my questions: -can the miata engine on a pretty mild build(less than 150whp) tolerate the crank pulley without the dampener in it? -anyone used this specific kit before? thoughts/impressions? |

From what I heard, it is a hit or miss. The oil pump gears would ultimately need to be changed to be (more) safer.

Hmm these are interesting. Although I thought I remember hearing horror stories about underdrive pulleys on our cars. Anyone else have more thoughts and info on these?

i bought and installed that pulley kit from sr a few years ago. there was a decent gain in performance, and haven't noticed any irregularities with how the car runs. I've kept the engine mods pretty basic with an intake, full exhaust and the pulleys

ok, so from what i've found up to now, adding the crank pulley to a turbo car would be death to the engine. but what about just adding their alternator and water pump pulleys and keeping the stock crank pulley. not really looking for power gains but looking to dress up the motor a bit and thought it might be a good start
would it be ok to run just those two pulleys with a turbo motor? oh, and sorry to bring a thread back from the dead. |

You ahouldn have the oil gear issues just without the crank pulley. I wish there was a non-underdrive pulley set though. I don't like the idea of under driven stuff or not being able to use a stock sized belt.
