it is a 94 1.6 miata. poorman's euro version.
when i press down on the clutch the rpm will drop, sometimes it will even stall. it also makes a vibrating knocking noise when it is pressed. the noise will beat faster if i press on the gas. sounds sort of like a chain saw... the car is still drivable and it idles fine. the problem occures only when i press on the clutch. before this problem occured, i push started my car several times due to my dead battery. clutch is also a excedy stage2 3-puck clutch which is fairly new... stock flywheel is also slighly shaved. the shop already installed a brand new stock clutch and even replaced the transmission but did not fix the problem... what can be causing this? please help |

Sounds like the throwout berring is going bad. If the berrings are going out on the throwout it put load on the engine and may choke it down. But, it will deffinately cause it to make noise.
It may have been installed incorrectly or it may have been overlooked by the mechanic when he changed the clutch. |

this is what happened
excedy stage2clutch -> 6months later... clutch problem -> back to a new stock clutch with new throwout bearing. -> still the same problem -> tried a different transmission with the new clutch -> still the same problem -> mechanic said there might be a problem with my crank shaft -> i said wtf it idles smooth and accelerates fine. -> mecanic said wtf do you want me to do my original transmission is now back on the car with a stock clutch... i told the mechanic about the bearing but he is possitive that it is not the issue because he had to remove and install it so many times... but just like what you said, its choking the motor and losing power during take off. i have to give it more gas compared to before. maybe i should just take it to another shop. i really appreciate your advice. thanks |

Check to see if the disc is bent.

well, turns out the guys at the shop was right. its the crank shaft bearing. whenever i press down on the clutch, i can see the crank pulley getting pushed forward. ouch... i guess it's time for a rebuild or a engine swap.

Damn so it was the thrust bearing. That is the one that stops the crank from moving front to back.
Crap dude. Yea, that def means rebuild. |
