Exclamation Oil filter removal help.

I can't get it out.

I've tried everything, old style filter wrench, one that uses a socket, bare hands.

I can't get it out.

someone suggest puncturing it with a screwdriver and twisting it off, but even if I did I'd have no space to turn the screwdriver.

How do you guys do it?

take off the wheel and go through the wheel well, you can get a decent sized tool in there, just watch the starter and alternator terminals...

i'm a tech and when all else fails i've never had a problem using these with stubborn oil filters... just grip em tight

I get mine out using my hand. Reach from underneath the car near the passenger side wheel. They say you should be able to get to it from above, reaching under the IM though.

Yea, the miata oil filter is one of the more easier ones to get out. If it is stuck, get a couple rubber bands and wrap it around the oil filter. That should get it out.

Whoever did this last time over tightened the shit out of it.
I've tried two people twisting at the same time from the top and bottom, and everything else.

And I was trying to puncture it with the screw driver but I can't get enough leverage to jam it in.

Have you tried the filter claw with a small extension and a good size ratchet? Works 98% of the time 100% of the time.

As said before, get it from the bottom. I just turn the wheel to get it out of the way.

At work, I have one of these: it attaches to a 3/8 ratchet and gives no fucks.

If yours is as stubborn as mine was (mine wouldn't even come out with oil filter sockets), get a pair of arc joint pliers and go from underneath.

I second this. It is by far the best way to get to the oil filter.

Welp, I ended up taking it out with something similar to this
It kept slipping and shit because it was made of plastic. but I ended up getting it out with the help of my girlfriend holding everything straight, then turning it from underneath.
Thanks guys.

When you get it out, replace it with a K&N filter. They have a hex on the end for a socket. Good filters, too.

If people could just understand to fucking lube the seal and once it makes contact, rotate 1 turn. Done.

For your case crush that fucker with channel locks and twist.

Whoever tightened your filter was a caveman. Mine go on by hand and come off by hand ( from the top ).

Spear it with the biggest screwdriver you can find.

Masturbate more, develop those forearm muscles, and manhandle that filter from the engine bay.

Removing the manifold brace also helps a lot. After you've removed it, leave it off; you don't need it.
