Its a 1.6 and from what I can tell its not a short nose. The bolts are all tight and everything seems super tight and ok. Is the crank warped? Im at a loss and today hasnt been a good day at all. :|
Thanks for any input
Edit: Its my moms car and she needs it soon so, if this is an easy fix that would be awesome, buttttttt I doubt it.
its a 92 with a different motor supposively.
Idk what year motor it is but the guy we bought it from swore up and down it was a 1.8. And Im not an idiot at miatas, I know its a 1.6. The key way seems fine. Ill give it another look to make absolutely sure though. Never hurts to double check.
Your crank pulley/harmonic balancer is a three piece assembly: the inner hub that is bolted to the crankshaft, the rubber ring that dampens vibrations, and the outer ring that drives the belt. If your rubber ring is shot then your harmonic balancer will fall apart. Note: these issues do not fix themselves. It is either a loose crank pulley and/or a damaged key way or your rubber is shot.
/\ +1 on that. My cars have never been "Wholistic" and do not fix themselves. Problems do go away - Sometimes... But they always come back with authority.
The only problems I've had go away on their own was noises from something lodged or scraping, once it broke free, the noise stopped... J/K... but I know this guy's out there...
You SHOULD be good w/ 8 slots... mine has 8, and I'm part of the 1% that has been unfortunate enough to experience a worn key way in the crank shaft.. WTS my bad luck to offset the cost of a new crank job..
recommended to pull the engine. would be WAY easier with it on an engine stand. you won't have to worry about the crank falling on your face, along with the bearings and caps, not to mention all of the residual oil and coolant dripping on your face. THEN you'd have fun cleaning the mating surface for the oil pan under the car... can't see any of that being easier than just pulling the engine
sooo... thinking of getting another block, doing a swap and then rebuilding current to keep as spare? Unfortunately I know nothing of storing engines other than they can lose compression and wear down if they're not used?
^how would a motor lose compression and wear down if nothing is moving?
I think you're thinking of the wear of having no oil between bearings and seals. if you don't start your car very often (say once every few months) the oil will drain to the bottom each time, and you'll be cranking/ starting on (mostly) dry bearings/ seals.
Storing it? Just tape it up and throw it somewhere where moisture won't get at it.
