i want to swap it in my 00 miata. my stub shafts are completely different than what the rx7 diff has. and i tried searching. can someone please post up a link. i still dont know if its an n/a diff or a t2 lsd...
yeah just send me a pm. ill try to find the other links i had to test the breakaway torque and the disc wear outs... are you planning on rebuilding it? or just installing it as is?
installing it as is.. i need to do some reading up. i got under my car yesterday and realized that the stub shafts are wayyy differnt. so this isnt going to be just put the rx diff in the housing.
edit: i guess my main problem is i dont know what year this is out of, and idk if its a t2 or a n/a diff.. im looking into it!
iirc, a second gen NA diff should swap directly into the miata's carrier housing with little to no modification. using a turbo 2 diff requires swapping some of the internal diff parts over to the miata's housing in order to make it work.

thank you. i posted stuffz up on rx7 club. i still am on the hunt to see if i have an n/a or t2 lsd. it came out of an 88 gxl, but im not sure if it came from the factory that way...
oh then its an n/a rx7... 86-88 n/a rx7 had a clutch type lsd.. the difference between the t2 and n/a clutch type is internally in the clutch disks. for that you have to take it apart.. its not too hard, and i recommend you do so. because you would have a chance to measure the disks and see if you need to replace any.
well from what i under stand you need a 1.8 miata diff housing, an N/A fc lsd (since t2 diffs dont work with out modification), the stub shafts from the rx lsd, and 94-95 half shafts?
Parts:
94-05 1.8 Miata open assembly
84-91 NON-TURBO Rx7 clutch-type lsd (89-91 is a viscous, don't bother)
94-95 Miata stub shafts or 86-88 RX7 stub shafts and 94-95 Miata half-shafts
or 96-05 Miata axles (no stubs needed)
RX7 Circlips (fit onto the end of the stubs/axles, miata clips will not fit)
dumb question, arent the lsd and open stub shafts different?
what about the one piece shafts? same or differnt?
oh and after i get rid of all of my spare crap this is probably going to happen.. and ill try and do a full detailed write up with pics and info gathered from this thread and hopefully we can get it stickied!!
anyways, thanks for all your help.. Also, would you recommened me rebuilding the lsd? If so what's it run for clutch plates? And is it something I can do myself?
94-05 1.8 Miata open assembly
84-91 NON-TURBO Rx7 clutch-type lsd (89-91 is a viscous, don't bother)
FIXED
ANY 94-05 Miata axles complete with
RX7 Circlips (fit onto the end of the stubs/axles, miata clips will not fit)
I bought one for 150 shipped from oakland last time. so i will look around and let you know. thanks. i really only need the housing. i dont even need the diff..
i suggest you take it apart and measure the disks for wear...at least thats what i did. its not difficult rebuilding the lsd...its actually quite easy. here is the link where you can buy the plates http://www.mazdatrix.com/G8LSD.HTM . also ill try to find the link i used that shows how to rebuild it.
yeah. the standard thickness per plate is 2.0mm ...the least allowable is 1.9mm ... read this page http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=581550 you can also buy thicker plates to have a faster locking lsd... or you can shimm the lsd also..
which ones though 1.8 open or 1.8 lsd? cause i know those two dont interchange with eachother, so obviously one isnt going to work... also which one will work the 1 pc shaft? are the lsd and the open ones different? they say to use the "miata shafts"
i have to daily this for the next two years, but i wanted to slide it more. so i think this diff will def. be a wayyyy better choice over an open since welded isnt an option right now.
lol...i dd my nb with a welded for 13months...its not too bad...but it sucks when you have a girl in the car and are making u turns...lol i actually have it for sale lol

i just dont want to deal with buying new tires every month, since my work is 30 miles away. and i work atleast 3 days a week.. people have said its not that bad, and ive driven weldeds, i just dont want to put up with it right now.
anyways. want to partout the diff and housing? ill buy the housing lolz
your not lookin to part it are you (housing and diff)?
edit: plus im sure it would also save on shipping costs. lolz
