i think tim has his pulleys listed in his build thread there so nice, but i think you should buy them all to make up for the size diffrence in the underdrive to make up for the loss in function,
i have heard really bad things when people lose the dampner
i would just stick to underdriving everything else and leave the stock dampner
or i think ATI makes an aftermarket dampner
yea ken, i looked into running a unorthodox under pulley myself. i actually still have mine in the box sitting in my garage.
the general consensus was that our engines are build balanced enough from factory to due away with the factory underdrive. it has some sort of rubber type material in it that soaks up the harmonic vibrations caused by our engines.
i've heard of a few ppl running them without any problems at all, and some ppl running them and having their engines fail in mysterious ways.
if your daring enough i've heard 5-10 hp can be gained running a lightweight aluminum one, but in the end i couldn't justice a shortened engine life for that much hp.
I remember seeing these on Rods page a while back. I have been wanting to buy a pulley set for my car but haven't found one for a 1.6. That is why I was wondering who made them.
Actually, the both of you are correct, but not looking at the picture fully. In the picture of the pulleys Rod has access to, it replaces the pulley, but not the dampener (the piece that actually fits around the crank nose) If you replace the dampener, or lighten it, you need to have the crank, rods and pistons balanced as an assembly or you'll have danger to manifold :woolery: However, in Dopple's defense, the OE balancer and pulley work just fine. If you're experiencing drag or parasitic loss, remove the a/c and p/s, otherwise, you'll need to upgrade your oil pump or create smaller gaps to the specs on it.
It's not the crank pulley itself, but the dampner behind the crank pulley that deals with the vibrations. My guess is someone like Ocean should give us some true engine building advice/knowledge.
are all of these posts enough to convince you that pulleys are just not worth modifying here? you'll never ever feel it anyways; 5hp+ at the crank will do nothing for driver feedback.
LOL, but why don't you just shift higher - drive faster - turn harder & save on pulleys.
so is there any good pulley sets for the nb's i cant really seem to find any...
