Hi,
so just wondering if any of you could help me out
i have a major vibration that is only there at around 29 mph
feels like the whole car is shaking apart starting at the rear
starts at 28 pretty abruptly and ends at 30 just as abrupt
like if you speed through the gears and pass 30 quickly it is barely there
i think it may be the diff, but only at that one speed?
doesnt matter what gear or rpm i am at, only at that speed.
thanks
Yeah, thanks for your suggestions though, a lot of people said wheels/tires, i got frustrated.
I posted this on m.net and that was one of the suggestions; the drive shaft. There is a guy local who sells miata parts for cheap so ill hit him up. You don't think there will be a balance issue with a used one also though? Or its a flaw and shouldn't happen again type issue?
Have you thought maybe its not the drive shaft but where it connects to the transmisson or rear where your problem is . I understand that you see it moving (i'm guessing up an down) but what caused it to get out of balance . Like it was said above its a rare thing .
I'm not saying changing the drive shaft might make your problem go away but you should check everything out before you spend money on a new/used drive shaft an find out its something else thats worn out .
that was just about to be my next question thanks for bringing that up
is there a bearing on the diff or tranny that i should replace with the driveshaft?
maybe the rubber piece that the DS mounts to the diff on?
m.net suggested u-joint failure.....maybe they are onto something
it can be yoke, u joint, driveshaft unbalanced. check if the driveshaft is straight and yoke straight when turning and there suppose to have the weighs on the driveshaft. try shake and move driveshaft if it moves means ur u joint is going out.
cheaper to test the fix get new u joint if it still vibrates then balance the drive shaft
the u-joints are not serviceable...get another driveshaft...I picked up my used one for $75.
It is probably the u-joint. there is a writeup over on Miata.net in the garage section about changing the u-joint...but it does involve machining and 2 new u-joints...a used driveshaft is quicker and cheaper.
driveshafts are pretty common on the miata. especially since the u-joints are not serviceable. Used is the way to go.. especially if you have priced a new one.
