Public Service Announcement for 1.6L owners... Did a search but didn't see anyone asking or addressing this but before I forget I thought I'd post a tip for anyone that purchases a new oil pump from a Mazda dealership.

They've changed the design a bit and the latest version now has a hole on the lower right hand corner of the pump that goes all the way through the pump and into the pan. This hole isn't needed on the 1.6L so you'll need to order what they call a Blind Plug to put in there.

It's nothing new, it's the same for the 1.8's, it is the hole that was used for the dipstick when the engine was in the FWD cars like the festiva, protege, escort, 323, Capri, etc..
