I noticed it last night on the way home from work, the car is making a faint metallic noise, which gets slightly louder as I accelerate. It sounds almost like a brake squeeler barely touching a rotor, or a drill cutting into metal, but very faint. The noise is somewhere in the engine (I'm guessing), as I can hear it when revving the car from the engine bay.

The motor has 109K on it, and has not had any problems at all until now. When I checked the bay, I was low 1qt of oil.

Any Idea on what this could be, or what I need to check next? It's really freaking me out, man.

get a mechanics ear type device and pinpoint were the noise is coming from
year of your car?
anything look funny or vibrating?
and it maybe coming from your speakers from a loose ground; it will emit a high pitched noise that goes up in pitch when you rev it.

1990 (104K) body with a 93 (109K) engine. I thought it might be the pulleys, but the sound is further back, in the bay, near the header.

The car has no radio, so there's no power in the speakers. I hope the lack of oil didn't do some damage.
