Couldn't find too much information about this elsewhere. Brand new speedo cable making lots of whirring and buzzing sounds. Thoroughly lubed. Anyone else have this situation and fix it?
It buzzes before it breaks. And it's not very much fun to change if you have an engine currently installed in your car. Every time I've done an engine swap in Sharka, I've changed out the speedometer cable. Fixing one ONCE with an engine still in the car was enough for me.
you shouldnt have to change if its still brand new pull the cable back out and put lube from one end so it comes out the other end and when you hook it up to the cluster use some grease or Vaseline on the part that goes in the cluster
The end that goes into the trans has to go in dead straight and all the way, it is possible to screw the cap on while the cable itself isn't seated completely in the hole, make sure you can hold at least eight to ten inches of the cable straight as you feed the little tab into the slot and push the cable against the trans as you screw on the retaining cap.
I had to use a hand mirror to see inside the tranny hole so I could tell where the little slot was pointed. Then I rotated the speedo cable to match and shoved it in there. A very annoying job suddenly became very easy once the two parts were lined up.
