Okay so ive been searching around and can't quite find all the answers. This winter im gunna be pulling my boosted 1.6 for a fe. I'm looking at doing the 8.8 swap (i know a 1.8 diff would handle it) im just confused what year thunderbird has the diff i need. 83-88 is when they first got the turbo 4 but they also have it in 89-97. Are the 8.8's the same in both these models? also i know they come with a 3.27 gear and are stamped 3L27 for a lsd. But are they offered in a different ratio? or am i going to have to rebuild it with aftermarket gears? Thanks guys
the seller of the diff im looking at said The tag read this. S509b. 73 88 1L14. iv been searching for hours on different forums and i cant find a match. i found that s509b is 90-93 thunderbirds, 88 is a 8.8 ring gear, but i cant find 1L14. the L means track lock but the gear ratio dosnt work out, normally its 3L27 for a track lock diff with 3:27 gears. confused:|
Actually, they had a v6 in the 10th gens and the SuperCoupe was a SC'd v6, no 4-cyl option. IRS was from '89-'97, you can also nab one from the Mercury Cougar, same years/body style.
