i messed up, and put an F1 stage 1 clutch set in my 99 .i have 1.6 clutch paired with my 6 speed. it doesnt hold ****. it slips if i try to burn rubber , it slips if i try to 2nd gear. it slipped at the track coming out of grid onto the track, through 1st ,and 2nd. it sucks and i need to replace it. im trying to get GripForce to honor their warranty, but they want the disc before they give anything up . ideally i want the Exedy stage 2. but thats another $360 if they dont honor it , $200 if they do. i can easily spring for a stock Exedy disc, but im not sure it will hold my 1.8 01 bottom end and insane driving technique.

opinions on the 1.6 disc holding down about 140 crank hp( 120ftlbs). im afraid the smaller surface will not be enough.my 1.8 oem exedy disc held great. but will the 200mm surface be able to also?

if the 7.25" organic is fine from 949 then it's not really about the size of the disc but the material/quality of the discs that matter in terms of power they can hold & longevity.

just get a quality disc, xtd/f1 are only good for their flywheels

to answer your question though, not sure if an OEM 1.6 clutch would last very long since you track the car & it has about 50% more power than a stock 1.6L lol....I'd just upgrade to the 1.6 exedy stage 2 & be done with it

Get the stage 2, i have a stage 1 exedy and at times due to the abuse. I question it holding when i go through the gears at high rpm's and rev match into turns after a while it will act a bit fishy. I wish i had gotten a stage 2 although the stage one has taken 15k of abuse. Daily and spirited, i would have to change it if i boost which is pretty shitty afterall

STAGE 2!!!

^^ Get the Stage 2 kit
Do not rule out how important the Pressure Plate is.
Even When going from Exedy stage 1 on to the stage 2. The clamp force of the pressure plate goes up as well.
I would also be willing to bet that Dakin "matches" the clamp force to an extent to make it perform right with the Disk it will be PAIRED with.
I have had poor experience with kevlar and Ceramitalic disks when paired with a shity pressure plate.
Do not skimp pimp.. Exedy stage 2 FTW
over 35K on mine. 1.6 sized too. I did get the THICK disk option :woolery:
BTW there are great breakdowns of Exedy clutches on Brians website. Great FACTS too..>

i question the size , cause its organic. the same material in the 225mm 1.8 size held fine.
i hate the fact that i spent to replace the clutch, now im spending to replace it again , and $365 doesnt make me feel good about it.
also the exedy stage 2 is a bit harsh on engagement . my wife still drives it everyday.
but with that said , i have a feeling i wont be happy with anything else. im partial to exedy products, and my wife will probably like it .
i was just hoping that i could get away with an oem exedy replacement, since they are such the bomb ****.
