im a bit frustrated as this doesnt make much sense to me and i dont need to throw parts at the problem so im lookin for advice from the more knowledgeable.
i have a 90 1.6 and durring daily driving back n forth to work/school my car runs and drives with no problems, but when i drive the car for about 3 to 4 hrs straight the car severly stumbles and looses power under load. i either have to run 5 mph or 70 to keep it from doing this and trying not to put the car under load. has anyone ever had this problem? i have replaced my wires with ngk blue and i have ngk iridiums as well with about 3k miles on the plugs and 1k miles on the wires. any help would be great
I got intermittent power loss after long drives as well. Pulley isnt wobbling and it goes back to normal once it sits for a bit so I've just let it be for now.
It's so random I can't possibly guess whats wrong. Things that remain to change and get worked out at high rpms would be coil pack or fuel injectors? (besides the plugs and wires which I also determined not to cause it). I havent swapped those for the hell of it so good luck.
i am goin to change the fuel filter tommorow or tues. and i figure if it was the coilpacks, would that not fail more often than just long period drives? could a hot day+ continuous drving cause plug foul? although coolent temps stay in good range.
I've decided to go with a neon coil pack conversion using msd coils and wires. Miswell upgrade if I'm goin to change coilpacks. In the process of getting a bracket made. I'll update as soon as I get this switched over goin to the junkyard tomorrow for the plug and pigtail.
I actually have this issue (slight power loss. not stalling) as well, but I always just chalked it up to exhaustion (driver) rather than the car itself. Never did any empirical testing though. Would be curious to see how this works out for you.
You solved the problem, but it was probably overheating spark plugs. My 92 did that in the summer. replaced plugs, no problem. I paid no attention to the heat ranges so I can't conclusively say how to fix the problem. It hasn't happened again.
OK, your post said you went with original equipment coil pack ($125.00) from Advanced? I checked with CarQuest today and they want $195.00. Now I want to know about MoPar coils for $30.00. Do they work, or is that something you dreamed up? Is there a link you could post explaining this, or would you take the time to. thanks Nevermind, I found it in the DYI section.
Ya im still going toward the mopar coils. Just have to wait on the mounting plate to get cut. I had to get a set of new coils so i could drive to nashville. I just took em back monday lol. http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=23377 (for anyone else that needs that diy link)
