im not to sure of the difference, i have a 93 1.6 how would i tell what i have, and whats the benefits of either? wikipediea and google were a complete loss.
you dont have one unless you have a 90-91 engine. A easy way to check is to look at the crank pully itself. If it has 4 slots in it its a shortnose. If it has 8 you have the long nose. The only benifit to a long nose is its not a piece of **** that will mess up when you do a timingbelt change.
My shortnose failed as well. Had to replace it with a 92 motor longnose and now it runs like a champ!. For the shortnoses you just have to watch how you install your timing belt.
I wouldn't worry. When I had a longnose crank failure, it was only a year or so after the timing belt job that caused the failure. In other words, if it hasn't happened yet, it likely won't.
