I was sitting in line at the bank and saw my temp guage goin up I cooled down and got it home this is what I found.
A sensor comming out of the top of the thermostat housing is snapped. I tried to go to the autozone to get replacement what they are showing don't seem to match up. is it possible this is from another year? Help, please identify year & part or should I glue it like somone else did? (see pics)
Mine broke off. I removed the plastic piece of the harness that is connected to the sensor itself, leaving only the spade connector on the tstat housing, and put on the wiring harness side on top and ziptied it in place. Looks ghetto I guess but it works and it's only temporary til I re-route the coolant.
BTW that sensor tells the fan(s) to turn on at 212 degrees. It should only have to turn on when at idle, such as when waiting in line at the bank, or on very hot days.
Thanks man I thought thats what it was but wanted to make sure before I took car out this weekend with wifey in it. She starts bit**** if I even hint sumthin aint right. Btw free jazz shows downtown Tampa if anybody interested. I think 14th -18th.
The dealer can't figure out which one I need, 2 to choose from & they got to be ordered. Sooooo... I CRAZY GLUED IT! So I can still drive shifty for now LOL.
Just Gonna buy both & return the one I don't need. Hmmm... even with vin # They couldnt say which I needed. Tech wanted to charge me to come outside and look at it WOW.
mine was ghetto rigged for a while on my 91. finally replaced it a few months ago with a peice from autozone. they originally gave me a part for a different miata. returned it saying it didnt fit and showed them the broken peice, then they gave me the correct part.
yeah thats the best way. i didnt want to pull it then find out they dont have replacement. then be stuck not rollin for awhile. Only other cars a boring mini van and beater pick-up LOL
That sensor is your Thermoswitch, it's what tells your cooling fans to come on. You can buy a new one at Autozone, Discount Auto, et cetera. Take your wrench, extract the old one, replace with the new one and you're done.
