So after seeing how much fun my car was, my dad picked up a 2000 NB with right over 20k miles. Its in really good shape but i feel like the previous owner didn't do much maintenance to the car because he hardly drove it. I was thinking about it and came to the conclusion that a ten year old car probably needs some work of some sort? What would you all recommend he has done? he was thinking possible timing belt being its ten years old and just all the fluids. Is there anything we should look for specifically. thanks a bunch

You may have some dry rot on some of the vacuum lines and the tires. Be sure to take the tires off and look for flat spots.

Definitely do all new fluids, ASAP.
Check your coolant lines and accessory belts for dry rot, and do a good system clean and flush. The rad may have a bit of crud in it from sitting for so long.
I'd also check the brake pads, take the calipers apart, and re-lube the slider pins.
plugs/wires/fuel filter/wiper blades/oil filter/air filter.
Maybe run a can of Seafoam in the gas tank, to clean out the injectors.
Good bit of work, but it is a good bonding experience for car & owner
