so i did a timing belt on tuesday and like the tech kept putting it one tooth off on the intake cam gear and it would start and idle at liek 750 and had no power.

so finally i went out there and locked the cams in place and then like put it right.
and the car started up with way better idle and sound and more power and pulls good.

but it still like misses and stumbles and doesnt have the same power (just a little)
it almost feels like there is maybe a degree or 2 off. it doesnt have that down low pull like it did before.

it has the original timing belt on the engine (180k) and surprisingly was in good condition. or it had been done a logn long time ago by mazda or something cause the engine pulled sooo strong.

would getting adjustable cam gears be worth it?
or no?

its a 1.6 NA

IIRC there are little markings on the cam gears that match up with markings on the head so you can keep the cams in their proper orientation(?). As for engine timing, use a timing light and see where your idle timing is at. I think stock is around 9-10* but most people advance it to 14 via the CAS. It only takes a very small twist of the CAS to set it so be careful. You'll also need to adjust your idle screw thingy (not sure of the technical name) located next to the throttle body.

here's a pic off an NB miata. Notice the circled cam gear teeth have indentions that are used to align the belt/gears. The NA has something similar from what I can remember.
