Trouble with engine warming up :s

Ive just had the head gasket replaced on my 97 NA and since i got it back its only been running warmish on the temp guage and the heater doesnt seem to be putting out any hot air either. the engine itself seems to be running slow and almost stalls when pulling away. there is also an additional problem of it turning over and over before struggling to start when i first fire it up. i hope all these problems are related but know they probably arent.
If anyone could shed any light on my problems id appreciate it a lot.
Cheers guys

warm on temp gauge - this might mean you're overheating, but its not the most reliable thing in the world. it's only half a step above a dummy gauge. edit: oh you meant its not hot enough

If your engine is hot then you should be getting coolant through the heater core which should also be hot. If you're not, then you may have a clog or air bubble (more likely) in your coolant system. Try running your car with the front jacked way up with the rad cap off until it gets hot. It will probably burp a couple of bubbles out.

I'm guessing you had a shop do the head gasket?

General slowness is tougher to diagnose, but if it just started after a shop changed your head gasket, your cam timing could be screwed up. Or hell, even your ignition timing could be off if they put the cas in half-ass.

Do you notice that it has decent power in only one part of the revband?

Thanks for the advice! Put the car on ramps and the cooling system did have loads of air bubbles in. heaters are now pushing hot air out! gonna send the car back to the garage the day after tomorrow to have the timing sorted. hopefully it wont take another week and a half like it did for the head gasket!

iv not had a look at the belt or pulleys because its under warranty from the garage who sold it to me so iv not really touched it tbh. ill probably check for air in the cooling system and take it back to the garage if it continues to struggle to run. Would that be the best thing to do as i dont really have any idea about mechanics :(

i had my timing belt swapped, and it ran like a air cooled vw after. i took it back and both camshafts were off a tooth or two. Runs much better now.
