The fluid line leading from the master cylinder... uhhh... Not the main metal part of the line that runs across the back wall, but the soft pliable portion of the same line, at the end, where it dips down into... somewhere. It's wrapped in a foamy substance, though I don't know if that's factory or not. Anyways, it's leaking an annoying amount of fluid all over my junk.
What exactly is this... why the foam shroud... is there anything under the foam shroud... African or European swallow.
Are you referring to its leaking inside the cabin? If so, your master cylinder needs to be replaced. Don't sweat it, very easy install. a whole two bolts and your done! And that foam stuff is stock.
No, the leak is in the engine compartment. On the opposite end from the master cylinder, on the fluid line itself. Where the line dips down. The soft part of the line, not the metal part.
Perhaps I should take a photograph. I'll do it sometime after I wake up today.
Yep. And if you want to be extra cautious, take some rubber hose and wrap it around the SS line. Doesn't hurt anything, just keeps it from rubbing into other components.
I replaced mine with an OEM rubber line. SS is OK if you want the "look" or you plan to remove the curly-Q at the slave cylinder, but the clutch doesn't have enough pressure warrant SS. Plus, you risk the SS line abrading through anything else it rubs against (also the reason the OEM line has foam on it).
The biggest benefit of the SS line over the OEM line is that it is more durable and will not fail like the fiber line will (as long as it's made properly). Had my OEM line split open while I was in Biloxi, MS, about 400 miles from home. Had to form a hardline from some parts from an Advance Auto Parts. Never again. Definitely not installed for looks.
It's very simple to run some rubber hose over the SS line to keep it from rubbing through anything else. Even some of the lines being sold now have a clear rubberized coating too.
Is there some super secret access portal Stargate thing that's supposed to allow me to get in to the bottom nut and unscrew it? There doesn't seem to be any way to get leverage down there without removing the frakking motor.
It's hit and miss. I bought a set from Advance when my line burst, they were inexpensive but they have been great to have on numerous occasions and haven't rounded anything out. But I've also used other ones that did, just like demoniam said above.
