Yet another valve cover question.

I love the look of a lot of painted valve covers out there. I especially like the red wrinkle coat on an MSM valve cover. I'd love to copy that, which would normally be a trip to Pep Boys and a couple cans of spray paint away, but... I have a plastic valve cover. Anyone ever tried this? I'm not sure if there's any kind of special prep I have to do or if I can even do it. Any insight from you guys would be appreciated.

You have an NC right? Isn't that plastic piece just covering the real valve cover?

if you really have to paint the plastic just make sure you clean it real good with rubbing alcohol and use a proper primer made for plastics. Then make sure the paint is properly matched to the primer. laquer to laquer or enamel to enamel and you'll be fine. I suggest also skipping the clear coat unless you get a proper clear with hardener and spray it through a gun. The canned **** sucks and ruins paint jobs, its all foggy.

Theres a plastic cover on top of the plastic valve cover. I'd like to chuck that and have a wrinkle coated valve cover. I got in touch with VHT and they assured me that i'll be fine, haha. I tried researching this but all I could come up with was a bunch of Mazda 3 and Cobalt guys painting their plastic engine covers. Apparently this isn't done much so I'll give it a whack.
