Put a motor in a buddys miata(92 1.6). Car runs perfect but won't idle right. I tried to jump the diagnostic box pins but nothing changed. It idles anywhere between 1500 and 2000 now. No vacuum leaks....nothing. Any help would be awesome. Thanks
Idle adjustmant screw is all the way in and there is a tiny hint of slack in the throttle cable. Something is wrong somewhere I just can't figure it out. Thanks for the quick replies. If you can come up with something else I would be grateful.
When the TPS is unplugged it makes the idle go up. See if the black thing under the butterfly flap at the tip of the intake manifold is connected/has the vacuum hose on.
If your idle adjustment screw is screwed all the way down you more than likely have a vacuum leak. I have my Idle adjustment screw all the ways down to keep the idle down cause of my vacuum leaks. I would use starter fluid or wd40 and spray short bursts around the gasket areas. If idle changes you found your vacuume leak. Just becareful with any sort of spark or flames.
Ok. New tb gasket no more vacuum leake there. Didn't fix anything. Still idling at 1500. And another thing that's bothering me. Why is the diagnostic box not changing the idle when I jump the pins??
Have you tried messing with the Idle adjustment screw? Open it up and see if it helps. Another possibility could be your Idle Speed Control valve could have gone bad but thats rare.
First. I did the "click" test on the isc valve. Failed that test so I'm going to put a new one of those on tomorrow. Still can't figure out why the diagnostic box won't work. And my next question. What is the "map" so I can check that out as well.
Yea I took the afm off and cleaned the piss out of the flapped door and all that jazz already. And cleaned the throttle body up too. Still can't figure it out. Also I traced all the wires back as far as I could on the diagnostic box. Nothing looked melted, burnt, pulled, or broken. Can't seem to get any of the pins to work no matter how you jump them
Is the stock intake piping on or is is aftermarket? When I installed my old intake piping my rev's used to be high. I fixed it by finding out I had a vaccum leak on her.

when i get off tonight ill pull my afm off and see if it helps his car. and i have not yet checked the tps itself. doing that later tonight also. thanks for all the great info on this so far. its annoying having the car idle at 2000/1500 all the time.
tell me about it its my car...... i have to hear it everytime i stop..... Grrrrrrrrr
