i was looking into some extended reach spark plug NGKs.. any thoughts?... the part number i got was ZFR5F-11 ...is this right...and is it safe to run these with 18 degrees advanced timing and what gap to run?
FM recommends them with their turbo kits, so I'm running them. I spent 9 years wondering if they'd help and what all the fuss was about. Got one out of the package and it's just barely longer. Like 5mm or less.
So far, my car is happy. No hot piston-on-plug action.
they aren't really 'extended reach' so much as they are ever-so-slightly longer, IIRC it's to help the plug run cooler so you can safely run more boost.
^ depends on the motor... I've run mine at 20* for a while with no knock or ping... But ive heard of times where 12 or less causes ping and knock like crazy on a stock setup on 91...
I don't know anything about 91 motors or the 1.6s but factory setting is 10*. I can't imagine 2* is really going to be causing that unless something else is messed up and is being compounded by the timing changing.
