i have an oil leak which i hate. i'll notice a puddle of about half a quart under my car some times, so i've been keeping oil in the car. is it possible to leak from the oil cooler itself?
i know the filter is tight, but if i run my hand under the filter and touch the cooler itself, i look at my hand and it's pretty new oil. could the oil cooler itself be leaking?
i got under the car again, the drain bolt is tight.
i've considered cas seal, but i'm not sure if it would leak as much as what i've described - http://www.miata.net/garage/cas_seal.html
the gasket on the oil pan seems to be holding up as well.
any other ideas?
has anyone had an oil cooler crack or leak before?
hmmm, i guess it could be the cas...i really have no idea. that's the least expensive piece probably.
looks like the cas is on the exhaust side of 1.8, can anyone confirm location on 1.8 nb?
srsly...where's my cas?
yeah, there are two open holes where it goes.
apparently the nb doesn't have a cas seal and the cas is on the front of the valve cover.
ty planet-miata for putting up with my ****.
eh, even with the car running and wiping everything clean, it's not as easy as i'd hoped.
but i guess i'm back with my original thoughts of somewhere by the filter.
I have a mysterious oil leak that is dripping from the crank pulley. It isn't the front main seal because i replaced that twice! Not fun. Well ruling that out, I put some dye in the oil after degreasing the engine and tomorrow I'm going to find out the exact spot where my leak is coming from. You should do the same.
i have an 94 NA and i am having the same problem... it's leaking oil and it seem to be around the oil filter and oil cooler... is there a gasket where the oil cooler is??? i run the engine for a few minutes and stepping on the gas a little... then stop the engine and check where the oil filter and oil cooler is and it's leaking from there...
anyone know how i can fix that problem? is there a gasket there that i can change?
there is also an o-ring on the filter. Sometimes the o-ring breaks off on the mounting surface. If you did a recent change, it could be stuck on and causing a leak. also make sure your filter is tightened down.
is it going to be hell for me to take out the oil cooler so i can change the o-ring between the block and the oil cooler? i dont think the leaking is from the oil filter. it look like its coming from the oil cooler from the inside...
oh man. i changed that sucker out just to get to the coolant hose that was attached to it. it's a 30mm nut..so make sure you have the right socket. while you're there...maybe you can change out that coolant hose that's attached to it.
one more question, where can i get that o-ring between oil cooler and the block? is it call the o-ring or gasket? autozone? kragen? pepboy? beside the dealer
