I went for a drive Wednesday night when i hit a pot hole and then began to hear buzzing/rattle kind of sound. It was loosely tied to rpm's. The car drove fine but made the sound. What clued me in to the starter was that it made the sound consistently when I turned right. My old '78 280Z had a similar problem that turned out to be the starter.
Today I went out to tap the starter to loosen the what I assumed was a stuck pinion when i realized that 2 bolts were gone. The bolts at the bottom, furthest from block, and the one holding the bracket to the block. So no to the question:
What are the starter bolt specs?
i think 14mm bolt head but what is the thread and length specs?
BTW: Yes, I have searched here, MT.net, MX-5 unleashed, m.net, AND google.
Look at what i found while under the car. The PO told me he put in a "Stage 2" clutch, what ever that means.
While the engine was running I reached down and moved the starter from the bracket end. There was very slight play but the noise would go away or get worse as i wiggled it.
Then there was this wire? Might it have something to do with not having reverse lights?
No prob brah! Google it and those numbers aren't quite right when i bought bolts as described. So what I am really asking is for someone who has some sitting around to measure them and confirm the specs. Because if you read your own "googled answer" you can see no one actually measured the specifications. I own a shop manual which gives the part numbers but not the measured lengths.
Hell even the reference to Keith Tanner's book "Mazda Miata MX- 5 Performance Projects" was never followed though on. So thanks for trying to do the "Use the Search Button" thing but I've been around here too long to have not searched before i posted.
Here's something for you https://www.msu.edu/user/trescami/thesis.htm#introduction it's a study and paper showing how anonymity effects peoples behavior on usenet and forums like this one. It's a good read for communication scholars like myself and may shed light on how your disinhibitive behavior may stem from your anonymity.
hahahaha you're going to school for communications
Also I've ran into this problem before. Just take out another bellhousing bolt and look at it, but I dont even understand why this matters. If you're that picky with torque specs then you're gonna want to get the mazda oem bolts which can be looked up in a FSM
Actually i've long since graduated with my BA but i'm working on my Masters. My focus believe it or not was Computer Mediated Communications I actually used this forum (vs. m.net vs mt.net) along with 20 others I had to observe for a large enough sample size, in a research paper.
But I'm not picky about torque specs, I just don't want to cross thread or use a bolt that too long. Seeing as this bolt is one of the many that hold the transmission to the engine it's probably a good idea to refasten them all.
I was p dumb in this thread I'm sorry brah. I messed up, usually I only pick shitposting fights with people who are basically illterate. I should have remembered what the thread pitch was cause I had to deal with a lot of those bolts with the miata/rx7 tranny bs, but I know its not something totally standard. Once you take out a bolt and figure out what the pitch is, mcmaster-carr has some rad cheap high-strength bolts you could use in pretty much any length.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
