i'm about ready to turbo my car, (winter time's perfect for projects like this)
i have a 94 and i want to pull the motor and strengthen the bottom some, new pistons rods. but i've seen a few people use the 99-2000 head and i was wondering if anyone had any info you guys could help me out with.
plan on trying to run a steady 8-10 boost but i'd like to have it strong enough to be able to handle more if i want run higher. i've been looking at the begi systems
Couple members in our Club have bolted on superchargers and turbos on the bone stock engine with 150k+ miles with no issues whatsoever..
Old saying...don't fix it if it aint broke
these motors are built from the factory to be strong enough to be boosed at those levels with all stock components..
Otherwise, the next step is forged pistons..and hi $$$ connecting rods...
but the stock stuff is good for a dead reliable 200hp...do some more research..see for yourself.
As for the '99 head?..sure, some people do that swap, but if you boost at reasonable levels, it is really not necessary...save the $$$ and heartburn...one thing at a time...
Talk to the BEGI folks before you tear into a perfectly good motor...
As far as i know, and can tell, there really isnt anything wrong with the motor. i do have a slight valve tap.
the motor has about 123k on it and i know i'll need a new clutch when i do turbo it.
money isn't a huge issue, i dont want to spend a ton of money but if i have to dish some out i'm not gonna cry or anything.
At 8-10 psi if its got good compression and decent mileage on it i'd say save your money on the rebuild and put it towards something else. Im at 16psi on my stock 1.6 and its got 220 thousand kilometers on it. still good compression through out and just made 236whp.
