I jacked suspended my car today because I took all my wheels off. It was up for about a good 5 hours. Anyways, when i lowered it and put everything back on and started driving. I noticed a loud and nasty rattle noise coming from the engine at about 3000 rpm. Imagine a exhaust rattle, except it's coming straight from the engine...
I jacked up the car on the back from the rear diff.. did that mess anything up? What could cause that rattle sound?
Straight from the engine, like right in front of you?
Could be the heat shield, could also be the heater core vibrating but that tends to happen while accelerating, check the grommets where the heater hoses go through the firewall. There's a simple fix if you think that's it, couple zip ties around the hoses pulled snug should quiet it up, not gorilla tight just snug.
I think I've located it the rattle. It's the heatshield from the pipe before the cat(toward the engine.) It looks rusty and wimpy. How would I make it not rattle? Using one of the metal O rings? But wouldnt that just make the gap bigger?
How much of a efffect it would have if I remove the heatsheild? I'm going to have to pry it off because it's all rusty anyways.. Will it damage the car? I commute with the car for 4 hours straight every 3 months or so for school.. if that matters.
I got a similer sound at idle and at 3900 and the idle is somewhere infront of me in the bay and the 3900 sounds directly under me. Could this be the same thing? Not sure if it was or not so i didnt wana make a new thread.
lol ya i know my spelling is bad. Im working on it tho lol you should see me hand writing to realy see bad. And ok i know this is even more noob but ya im still a noob and im learning. Is it the heat Shield you see right over the header or is there another onesomewhere els idk about. And agin ya i know im a noob lol.
Ok well I got some wedges so I can get under my car easy enough. If I take them off what are the side effects. I'm guessing it'll generate more heat towards something but what exactly.
ya pretty much, you can take it off though, it shouldn't make TO much of a difference but nonetheless there will be some more heat coming off em'. If you put it back on then you can maybe use some thread-lock? Idk if that will melt or make stuff worse for some reason but i'd imagine it would help it not come loose again for a good while.
I too have the same issue. Mine happens from about 2800rpm-3300rpms and then shuts off. Mine is caused by the gasket connecting my header and downpipe.
Well I got around to the shield on the header today and the rattle at idle is gone and the one at 3900 is quieter so maby tomorrow ilk get around to the rest of the shields when I put on my fog lights lol
I've removed the Cat heatshield and clamped the Header heatshield. That didn't solve it.. I swear that noise is comming from the intake manifold.. I'm I crazy? How sure is everyone about not having a, oh I don't know a screw or anything, in the engine?
Well my rattle went away when i tightend up the heatshield so i dont know man sorry. Hopefully someone on here gives you some advice thatll fix it. Good luck.
OH hell no. I always shift around 3000 rpm. ALWAYS. I slow down for potholes, and I usually tell my passenger to get out of my car when I go over speedbumps (I'm kidding). But I treat my car better than my girlfriend, so I KNOW it's not one of those oh-****-maybe-I-shouldn't-have-done-that things.
sounds like you have excess build up from lack of revs. have someone hold the car at 3000 rpms and stick your head under there. find out where on the motor the noise is coming from.
