I`m in the middle of a wire tuck and soon an engine swap. When the old engine is out I want to give the engine bay a fresh look. My car is white, but I think I`d like to make the engine bay black. I`ve seen some people do a textured finish in the engine bay to hide small imperfections and help resist against chipping. The car is going to be mainly a track car, and I just want it to looks `nice` not like a showcar.
What kind of products have you all used in the past and how easy was it. I don`t have a HLVP gun so this would be a well prepped and many coat spray bomb job.
IMHO, I would stray away from painting it black, the darker the color of the engine bay the harder it is to spot problems. The darker the bay is the harder it is to see and the brighter the bay the easier it is to distiguish one thing from another.
Thats one of the reason why alot of old school hot rodders paint their engines a lighter color, to easily spot oil leaks and what not....
Primarily a track car equals painting it somewhere between white and battleship gray at the darkest. You need to be able to spot anything and everything. A black engine bay is ok, but I wish I had painted mine gray instead.
