so just picked up a miata with a spun bearing. Ordered a used engine from planetmiata, im in the process of pulling the motor now, was wondering if ya'll had any tips for fluids to run in the engine, tranny, shifter housing, and diff. Its gonna be a dd so im not trying to blow the budget on redline or royal purple. I was thinking 10w-30 mobil 1 for the engine, mobil 1 75w-90 for the diff. and the only question is what i should run for the tranny and shifter housing, i was thinking pennzoil synchromesh for tranny? and if ya'll got any better tip i'd appreciate it.
For the engine, I recommend Mobil products. Redline isn't that expensive if you actually look in the right places. I remember seeing it for $10 a quart somewhere (vs $20 a bottle for royal Purple, despite how much I like it).
Every automotive store down here. PepBoys, Autozone, Advance, etc...
That was for gearbox/diff oil, not engine oil. (I wouldn't run RP in the engine) OP, it's worth the wait for good ****. Just saying. I have RP in my gearbox and diff, but again...it's super expensive for the 3 bottles you need.
Some people swear by redline and RP..a well maintained DD can use any good synthetic and you probably would not notice the difference...except in the wallet.
We are using Valvoline full synthetic in the gearbox, shifter and rear end in all 3 of our DD...
Castrol syntec 20-50 or Rotelle 10-40 in the engine, Pennzoil synchromesh in the gearbox, same in the turret and Redline lightwieght shockproof in the diff.
