Default Civic Pitch

Ok so after some time testing and trying to figure out why my friends 96 NA sounds like a civic with a test pipe at 3,500-6,000(that eeeh broken cat sound) we gave up, does anyone know why it would sound like that if he is just running 2.25 piping from the header to the stock exhaust? is this normal or is there a reason for this noise? bad weld? somethings loose? any ideas or response would be great, thanks, we checked if it was hitting anything but nope perfectly clear. I mean the response is there, but jus that little buzz eeeh noise at 3,500 -6,000 when you get on it is killing us.

thanks
Mel

Yeah just straight 2.25 from the header to the stock exhaust.

It didn't make that noise with the stock piping thought... until he got 2.25 piping from the header to the stock muffler.

So you think it makes the noise because somethings wrong with the muffler?

I don't think there is something wrong with the muffler, though there may be with all the extra air you're trying to squeeze down into it's 1.75 diameter?, but rather the muffler is wrong.

true... good point, what kind of muffler would you recommend? I don't want anything loud or really attention grabbing, just better flow really.

thank you

You can leave the muffler... and add a good sized resonator. That is where the buzz is coming from.

Or... just dump the stock muffler, put in a nice resonator and a nice muffler... (i'd do this honestly)

dynomax super turbo ( seriously ) muffler. And 8'' or 10'' resonator.

if you just replaced the cat with a test pipe, and kept the entire stock exhuast....yea, thats what itll sound like, a little buzzy and hollow sounding.

Ive been there, done that. I wouldnt say it sounds as bad as a civic though. Nothing sounds as bad as a civic. no offense to civic owners, especially Joey, yours is teh bomb.

I hear the Tsudo exhaust is pretty quiet, and looks good.

True thanks for all the info guys, my friend went and got 2.5 outlet piping on his stock exhaust and it only does some buzzing around 3,000-3,200 and after that all you mostly hear is the motor and a deep throttle sound you can hear a little buzz but not as much as it was wit the stock 1.75 outlet piping the stock muffler had, I think he might get a muffler but he doesn't want to spend to much cause he's going to go turbo someday,so for now i guess he's ok but any other muffler with a stock/ deep sound would be awesome, its not so much a test pipe cause it goes from the header all the way to the stock exhaust inlet(2.25)so just a long test pipe . I'll see if I can get a camera and get a clip of the way it sounds, It sounds alright and feels smoother but of course it's still no 300-500 exhaust system.,so you get what you pay for.
