I want to repaint my car. Same color, just fresh paint. I am trying to do this and not break my piggy bank. I want to do this right and remove every possible molding and trim piece. To do the windshield frame right i need to remove the windshield. That is at least 250 dollars if the windshield does not break. If it breaks i will pay close to 500. Thats how much my paint job is going to cost.
So i have an idea. Instead of removing the windshield i am going to paint the car Mariner blue and will cover the windshield frame with a very hight quality 3M vinyl. Now i need to figure out what color i want. Its impossible to do it in Mariner blue so i want to either do Silver, Black or very good quality carbon fiber vinyl. Now dont call me ricer. 3M makes a very good carbon fiber looking vinyl that will look black from far away but close up will look 3D and have carbon fiber look. Here is the link to the vinyl i am talking about. http://www.carbonfibergear.com/direc...on-fiber-vinyl Has anyone painted their windshield surround different color? Here is a pic of my car. |

i might be actually getting the hard top too. There is a pretty good deal looming around. Power wise the car is pretty good already. 200hp to the wheels. at 11psi. I just need a better downpipe not the crappy begi one and i will probably gain another 20hp at 14psi and 3" exhaust. a bigger intercooler will help too. As long as the engine does not blow up.

Q1: Is the car in the first pic your car? If yes why you want to paint it?
Q2: Isn't $500 a bit too much? Here in LA you can change the windshield for $170-250 (this price includes a new glass windshield) Q3: Why you need to remove the windshield? I believe there something that you buy in paint supplies store and lifts the rubber molding a bit so you can spray under it... |

Max_Power. Q1: Yes it is my car. It looks amazing from 20 feet. But come closer and the paint is peeling places, the front bumper is already being repainted because in its previous life the car was in a small front end accident and instead of replacing the bumper they just bondoed and painted. So the bumper has two huge dents right in the middle that look like a fat chick set on it. The trunk lid is being repainted too because a bicycle fell on it.
One of the sideskirts are bent from what i think was a small pole. So i want that pulled, bondoed and painted. Q2: That what i was told 100 out 100 in. That the cheapest i found. Plus if the windshield breaks new one is anywhere from 200 to 300 bucks. Q3: I could just bend the windshield rubber seal but its very tight and hard almost plastic feeling stuff. So there will be very little space for painting. |
