is there a roll bar thread in this forum? I've searched but did find one. please post your roll bar. thanksZ. does anyone have pictures of bsp roll bars?
Hey CR members, my car is going through another major build... motor is out for more juice and had a custom Rollbar done up by a local machine shop called AMT.
Basically, it's a 4-point with diagonals on main hoop and rear bars plus the side bars.
shaved some weight by removing the metal deck area and most of the seat belt tower.. as I added quite a bit of weight form the bar itself.. (diagonals on rear bars were added after this pic was taken.)
to stay "street-legal", I have to incorporate the factory belt assemblies with the bar.
It's currently being painted for anti-rust purpose...
Figure I should really fill u guys in a bit since haven't been updating my build progress at all.. but soon I'll start a new thread for the build Ver. 2.
A lot has to be done in these few months.. Aside form the motor, the plan is custom BBK/splitter/diffuser/exhaust for diffuser.. If I have the extra dorra, then prolly new gauge/display system to monitor the new built motor. Hopefully I can get some pictures and info collected to share with u guys.
That'd be a good idea, but i'm not strictly following the spec miata rules perosnally..
In general, it's somewhat a compromise of weight and strength. I would have done a few things differently to improve now that this one is completed; however I'm still happy with the results! In the future, I'll convert this to a full cage and by then i'll do the changes to it.. wherever possible.
Honestly, if you're not sure what kind of bar you want/need, I'd just go with what's been out there for awhile. Standard diagonals (or even no diagonal) bars have survived rollovers in the past--why go for something that you know will be a restriction?
HD X-Braced looks too braced IMHO. Not needed in an only behind the head roll bar. A full cage is a different story. But to each his own. Everyone's lookin pretty good in here.
Roll bar prices went up, and Tom @ Bethania expects prices to go up again this year due to cost increases in material and labor. I bought my HDHCM1SD for $485 shipped 5/2010. To buy the same bar now, it would cost $540.
Which is a bummer since I committed to selling mine based on my original purchase price w/o knowing of the price increase. Do you guys think $400 is a fair price for my roll bar or do I need lower the pricE?
500 bucks is almost enough to pay for materials (1 1/4" DOM tube) to make 2 full cages.
and well over enough to make it out of seamless tube. this is nuts.

I agree, but what can ya do... if anything it says you gotta buy Hard Dog sooner than later. I've no patience shopping in the used market for a roll bar. This HDHCM1 I have I ended up buying new after scouring craigslist for roll bars (they sell fast, I swear you have to sit on CL all day to be first in line for any that pop up)... in the end, I ended up receiving the brand new bar 3 days before a track day, had to do the install during work hours or else it wouldn't have gone in in time lol.
yeah if you want hard dog get it now before you can't afford it lol.
idk to each his own.
for me a roll bar is a roll bar, whether it's hard dog, or shop made, at the end of the day it's a four point with some diagonals and maybe a harness bar, 15 ft of tubing at the most.
Looks like I'll be buying a Hard dog M2 Sport with the double diagonals soon. Maybe next month, I was set on possibly buying the HD Hard core hard top M2 but decided to call up Tom @Bethania for some input. Price isn't really a factor to me since the difference is maybe a hundred bucks or so, it's a one time purchase for my daily now that I plan to sell my lexus gs350.
What changed my mind was that I don't ever plan in tracking the car so its just a safety precaution. That and everything including the hard top clears it fine, which I plan on buying later on as well. Thanks to Tom @Bethania for the great CS.
Not that I'm an expert on these things by any stretch, but Hard Dog will add a harness bar (or you can buy a bolt-in one) for a reason...
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
