this is pretty much universal for any car. look on the sides of the steering wheel, should be a rubber cap on each side, pop them off, take out bolts, pull out airbag and unplug, then lock steering wheel and undo giant bolt in middle.

how far is so far off if? you have never had your steering wheel off i would be worried that your stering rack is out of place and just moving your steering wheel will make your car turn one way more then the outher.

long story short lowered my car then hit a curb and bent my rim, got that repaired and i tried correcting it by playing with the tie rod ends then i found out my lower control arm was bent so i replaced that so after i fixed everything my steering wheel faces at about 3 o' clock when my wheels are straight and it cannot be fix by getting an alignment so i must reset my wheel. make sense?

ok so i sense alot of sarcasm on that one. do you know something that i dont? you really think something else is bent huh ? like what. the only thing low enough to hit would be the lower control arm.,which has already been replaced, and when i put the new one in, everything lined up perfectly.

Just get it aligned. It will tell you if you got the same angle both ways. If it aint then you can move things around. J was just helping

Yeah it sounds to me like you just need to adjust the tie rods in the opposite direction than you did last time. What you're trying to do is a band aid fix. Get it close, then pay for an alignment.

But if you insist, there should be a walkthrough on removing the air bag in the m.net garage

Get it professionally aligned first. Tell them to get the steering wheel straight. That's doing it the right way.

If the steering wheel still isn't straight - then do your jerry-rigging.

Moving the wheel would fix a SLIGHT misalignment, like a few degrees. If it's as off as you say, then you need to fix the suspension.

M.net has instructions. When I put on my aftermarket wheel I pulled the battery cable and walked away for 45 minutes to give the airbag capacitors time to discharge. Remember, the airbag is a bomb, just waiting for a little current to go off.

45 minutes? Bah. Pull the battery and then hit your brakes. The lights will completely discharge your electrical system in less than a quarter second. And an airbag is HARD to set off. Just don't touch the terminals while you're walking around with it.

For real. It's not that big a deal.

and OP: just drive to the alignment shop with your wheel crooked. It's not the end of the world. They'll fix it for ya.

Firestone. I think its $135 for alignment and you get them for lifetime. As long as you own the car, you get free alignments after that at any Firestone dealership.

What you could also do is have a buddy the same color car as your put on your plates and alternate! You both get free alignments! Handy if you own more than one miata.

Or you could not be a dishonest scumbag and refrain from theft of services.
