That is the power window switch with auto down. Comes in the NA8 second series (ie. 96-97).

looks. It does give you quite a bit more armroom, no more hard plastic console in the way of my elbow. On my trip down to VIR, my elbow actually started hurting a little from resting on the console.

Although now I suffer from icy cold crotch syndrome on my lunch breaks now. haha

Slightly off the topic, but I @#$%ing love minkara.carview.co.jp. I could browse it for hours just ogling all the crazy crap people do to/with their cars.

Auto on drivers side only. And fitted from July 1991. Weren't fitted in other markets,. because, as far as I can make out, the MX5 power window mechanism wouldn't have met safety standards in other markets, to allow a full auto function.

Wow.
My console is cut to that exact length right now....hrm.....And I had planned to do a M2-1001 style center console until I saw that. Decisions decisions.

Probably because alot of us grew up with older 2-seater sports cars, MG's, TR7's, etc in our family of cars, or just had alot of love for their simplicity. And the real sports cars didnt have CupHolders, or Center Glove boxes cluttering up the interior. And sometimes less is more, it just looks cleaner to me.

For me it was deleted to make the interior more like the simple design of the M2 Roadsters, and becasue i have a hard time keeping anything stock. My center console is gone, as are my door armrests (they arent functional anyhow, too narrow) and cupholders? hahhaa save that shiz for my family car.

BTW that center area between the seats makes a nice spot for your racing helmet once the center console is deleted.

Really? I thought the Hyper-Rev #14 says that it is only on the NA8 series 2? At least it was showing the photo like that and my half-guesswork selective japanese reading seems todeduce that I'll scan the Hyper Rev when I get home and let somebody do a translation!

Those fancy switches also came on the LTD models, like the 1996 R2, and B2 LTDs

100% Yeah! That's exactly why. Nice find turbored. All it took was someone handy with the sheet metal shears and the willingness to chop up a perfectly good center console. What is this Japanese social networking site you speak of? Myspace.jp?

This console along with this cup holder(s) makes a perfect combination. What's the solution on the trunk and gas cap levers?

Every single post-July 91 Roadster (Roadsters with a rear subframe brace) I have seen has these switches. My April 92 Roadster had them. My Oct 91 Roadster had them. A mate's 93 1.6 has them. Someone else's Nov 93 NA8C had them. My May 96 Roadster has them. And its easy to spot a retro-fitted switch; the factory wiring for each style of switch is different. What the series 2 NA8Cs had that others didn't have is an electric window isolator switch. A simple switch to turn off the electric windows. Its very annoying and pointless, but was probably forced on them by Japanese law (the Series 2 only had a couple years of life before a complete redesign).

I think folks in the UK are in a better position to judge what actually was fitted to a Roadster, than yourself using a bad translation. We see these cars all the time. You might save yourself a bit of time.

For me, it's entirely about arm room. Especially with the race seat, my elbow comes right where the window switches go, and shifting is literally a pain because I have to figure out how to contort my arm on the fly to get around the console #-o

With my race seat, I can't physically touch the armrest. At all. With my stock seat, I enjoy resting my elbow on my padded diy armrest. While I like the look of the minimal console, I just don't think I could live with it.

I like the look but I dont like the idea of two random arms popping out of the back of the center tunnel for my trunk and gas lid.... otherwise I would totally do it.

Because it looks simple and sporty like the roadsters of the past...

Heh. I just 'finished' mine. The back part looks exactly the same, but with the NA switches. The front part just has the hole for the shifter until I figure out how to attach my carbon boot. Wasn't too difficult to do. Cut, bondo, paint, attach.

Ruined it with those crappy accessory switches in front of the shifter; could've at least made them both black .. ew .
