I don't know if there's anything FM can do. It's stainless steel, but it isn't titanium...

That SS was solid. I'm wondering what the impact may have done to the chassis.

Maybe it needs an angle in front to deflect impacts instead of a box shape?

FYI, the top in this pic is the front where it took the impact.

That's exactly what I'm really afraid of guys

If you see the pictures below it seems that the bolts might moved a bit and tear the floor around them...but I'm not sure yet.

Check out also how the middle section moved (you can see the "line" of the place that they used to be).

I was also very concerned about the brake lines, but I think they look OK.

Dude, that sucks big time. I wouldn't be too worried about chassis deflection, though you might want to check for some hole elongation & be extra careful to look for the possiblity of cracks occuring around the drilled holes.

I'd take it up with the city where the manhole cover is located.

Thank you guys!
I went to Paul's (Mega Monster Garage) today and with Bill Wilner's valuable help we managed to remove the middle section.
It seems that the damage is limited only to the butterfly brace...

I was thinking to go against the city but for $300 probably doesn't worth to do it...what do you think?

300 seems very worth going against the city. Write them, tell them where the incident occurred, etc. I'm sure they'll fix what's wrong but only if it wasn't adequately labelled.

OOOhh, I just saw you're in the People's Republic of California. They may say that your car was "illegally" lowered and tell you to pound sand.

Miatas headlights are pretty high up aren't they? The rule down here is no lower than 22 inches to the center of your headlight from the ground. So I would say he has a chance

and people wonder why I don't want the butterfly.

Put your stock suspension back on and then write the city.

Two thoughts:

1.) The frame rail kit by itself gives a pretty good benefit. Why not just do that? You don't have to do the butterfly.

2.) If it didn't hit the butterfly (at least on my car) it'd have hit my exhaust. Sooner or later, something's gonna hit.

You know what gets me in the after pic? It's not the damage (it frankly held up better than I expected) it's the fact that it's already rusting, and you live in CA, not anywhere where you should deal with that.
