Default Tein Basics or Super Streets? Which ones are right for me?

Hello all,

Did a couple of searches and it seems that Tein coils come highly recommended. I was going to go for the Basics as I read they offered quite a "fairly smooth" ride. I found the following thread to be most helpful:

http://clubroadster.net/forum/viewto...ote=viewresult

However, as I'm shopping around it looks like the Super Streets are just a BIT more expensive than the Basics and I'm wondering if I should shell out the extra 300 bux or so to get these. These things aren't cheap and I figure I might as do it right the first time.

Here's basicaly what I want to use them for.

2000 NB Miata
16' XXR 002 wheels

I'm gonna use my Miata as my daily driver. I'm not gonna track it, just want it to be low with a decent "fairly soft" ride for daily driving and some brisk drives around town. I live in the city so road conditions aren't perfect. I've had lowering springs and shocks before and the ride was HARSH!!!

So for my pursposes should I go for the Basics or the Super Streets? I'm not too techincally saavy on coilovers so please be kind~

All advice is appreciated.

Cheers,
J~

for basics, it is only height adjustable

for the SS, you get both height and damper adjustability

if you just plan to drive your car around as a daily driver and not really take it to a serious level of driving, then there's not much of a reason for you to get anything more than the basics.

with the basics, if you're planning on slamming it, then youd probably want to get some tophats (look for danscreations tophats, they work for both the SS and basic)

as far as i know, basics and SS is only good for dropping the car. other than that, i think you should go with a spring/shock combo or look at better coilovers

I noticed that some vendors specify between different NA and NB models while others just say they fit all models ranging from 90~04... Do the Tein Basics fit both NA and NB models the same?

Also, do we still have a problem with fake Teins on ebay?

1 more vote for the basics here. They have the same springs as the SS and Flex, and the damping is set to match the springs. It's like buying the Tein SS, finding that optimal damping level, and leaving it there. So unless you are planning on changing the damping then go with the basics. Also, they have shortened shock bodies so you can go as low as you want.

I don't regret buying basics at all. If I had to do it all over again I'd buy them again.

+1, even if you do eventually take the car to the track or autox its not like they are going to explode....they just lack adjustability (for dampening). But for a DD you dont have to worry about that.

Honestly there are so many places that sell tein products there is really no need to buy them off ebay. A ton of the CR sponsors sell them or you could go to a place local to you. I bought my SS from 949 fwiw.

As far as I know the Ebay fakes are only the Tein springs. as far as I know noone has faked the coilovers yet.

Problem is I need them shipped to South Korea so I can't just order from anyone. There are a couple of vendors on Ebay who are willing to ship here, so I'm asking them.

You can contact them and ask if they can get you tein basics.

While this is partially true, let's not over-simplify the difference between Flex and Basics. The basics are simply height adjustable on the spring perch and that's it. The Flex has height adjustability on the spring perch and the shock collar. You can adjust the height and preload independently on the Flex. Any height adjustment on the Basic is going to directly affect preload.

Also - the Flex has upper pillow ball mounts

True true. There's no doubt that the Flex are a much more adjustable and versatile setup. I just think they are overkill for a lot of people. That being said, I'll probably buy a set someday if I start doing more track days and need more adjustability.

Just to keep it interesting here are some pics I took of mine when I first bought them.

if it werent a significant loss for me, i'd want to trade flex for super streets. i like the conventional coilover design better than the full length stuff
