So I was installing a new UCA when it came time to have to re-tighten the bolts on the sway bar bushing mount.
I get it to 20ft-lbs and decided to give it one more tug for safety.. the thing shears right off. SO my driver's side bushing mount only has one bolt connecting it. At the risk of sounding like a complete moron, how do I remove the rest of the bolt (the end on the upper side of the mount) and how safe is it to drive it around with just the one bolt holding the mount? |

sway bar does nothing important in terms of holding the car up, absorbing bumps, and holding alignment angles. ur fine.
im driving with my rear sway disconnected until i save up for a pair of adjustable rear end links |

Couldn't you just use the double nut method to take out the rest of that stud? That is, if it is indeed a threaded stud that can be removed like that.

Well I got it out. MUCH easier than I thought. Don't know why I hesitated so much. Took a drill bit slightly smaller than the diameter of the bolt, slapped it on my drill and after about 10 quick revolutions, the bolt just backed itself out of the mounting plate.
Ran to the local hardware shop and picked up a new bolt and slapped it in. Done and Done. |
